Hi, I’m Mika. I love watching movies. My favorite genres are horror, mystery, comedy, and action. I also love listening to music especially when I am working. It helps me to focus. I can sing and dance if you are up for that, too. Before moving to New Zealand, I was a high school teacher in the Philippines. For 5 years, I taught English 10, Reading and Writing Skills, and English for Academic and Professional Purposes. For several months during the pandemic, I provided homework assistance for elementary students. When teaching, I use the triple P method - Present, Practice, Produce. I have found it most effective for teaching grammar, composition, and speech. I also adopt scaffolding for struggling learners. In addition, using real world situations as context for the topics discussed helps students appreciate the purpose of learning the subject matters.
